Sarif aveva ragione su una cosa: il desiderio di superare i limiti è nella natura umana. E’ così.
Avevamo freddo, abbiamo creato il fuoco. Eravamo deboli, abbiamo creato gli utensili.
Ogni volta che un ostacolo ci si è parato dinanzi, abbiamo usato creatività e ingegno per superarlo.
Questo ciclo è inevitabile… Ma i risultati saranno sempre positivi?
Immagino dipenda dal come lo si affronta.
In questi mesi sono stato messo alla prova più volte: ho cercato di lasciarmi guidare dalla morale, consapevole del fatto che le mie azioni non dovevano arrecare danno agli altri.
Non ho forse resistito, più volte, all’impulso di abusare del mio potere per raggiungere più rapidamente i miei obiettivi?
In passato abbiamo dovuto correggere le nostre debolezze, con soluzioni che andavano a beneficio di pochi.
Ma… se non dovessimo più sentirci deboli, o vittime di conflitti morali?
Se la via che Sarif vuole tracciare consentisse di perseguire valori elevati e stabili?
Una cosa è evidente: per la prima volta nella storia, abbiamo la possibilità di rubare davvero il fuoco agli dei.
Volgere la testa ora, abbandonare il sogno di un futuro dove tecnologia e biologia si uniscono, portando alla promessa di un’unità, significherebbe negare la nostra essenza più profonda.
La strada da percorrere sarà ardua, molte persone soffriranno.
Ma non ne vale la pena per raggiungere il sogno?
Possiamo diventare quegli dei che abbiamo sempre sognato.
E potrebbe riuscirci bene.
